Oakland, California — Thousands of schoolchildren from transitional kindergarten through high school in Oakland, California Title I public schools will enjoy Mathical Books in their libraries this spring.
With the generous support of the Firedoll Foundation, nearly 1,550 fiction and nonfiction books with math themes are making their way into school libraries serving young people from low-income backgrounds in Oakland.
The donation includes picture books, chapter books, biographies, novels, nonfiction, and more, aimed at inspiring a love of math in the everyday world for kids of all ages.
Volunteers from Oakland Literacy Coalition School Library Partnership (pictured below) are preparing the books for library shelves at the 55 Title I Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) school buildings with staffed libraries.
The donation follows a pattern of annual giving in the Bay Area by the Mathical Books program, with the support of the Firedoll Foundation.
