Oakland, California — More than 27,000 students at 60 Title I schools in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) received Mathical Books donated to their school libraries early this fall.
The donation was the second of its kind in less than twelve months, including picture books, chapter books, biographies, novels, nonfiction, and more, aimed at inspiring a love of math in the everyday world for kids of all ages. Books were selected from the Mathical List by the district librarian. Students from transitional kindergarten through high school were included.
With the generous support of the Firedoll Foundation, more than 1,050 fiction and nonfiction books with math themes made their way into school libraries serving young people from low-income backgrounds in Oakland.
The donation follows a pattern of annual giving in the Bay Area by the Mathical Books program, with the support of the Firedoll Foundation.
