The International Day of Mathematics (also known as Pi Day) takes place on March 14th worldwide. The International Mathematical Union has created a new free poster design for classrooms to print to celebrate this year’s theme: Mathematics, Art, and Creativity.
The poster design is based on a Penrose tiling, and comes in a full-color version or a black and white version which students can color in their own tessellation patterns. Both versions are available in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish. Make it mathematical: Can you find shapes within the tiling patterns to color? What about using only three colors without any two adjacent shapes using the same color?

Additional activities to celebrate Pi Day / International Day of Mathematics are available on the IDM website free of charge, as well as other free decorations. Will your school or organization celebrate? You can add your 2025 event to the map if it’s open to the public.
