Thanks to a partnership with nonprofit social enterprise First Book, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) and the Children’s Book Council (CBC) announced today that at least 5,000 copies of winning Mathical books will be available exclusively to schools and programs serving children in need when the winners are announced in April 2015.
“First Book is proud to be part of the first year of Mathical,” said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book. “All children deserve the chance to explore the world around them in new ways, and access to great books—like the ones Mathical will honor—is essential. We’re excited to make these resources available on the First Book Marketplace and ensure they reach children who need them most.”
The Mathical Book Prize recognizes titles from early childhood through high school, in five age categories: Pre–K, K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. There will be a winning book in each age category, as well as a list of honor books.
First Book provides access to new books for children in need. Since 1992, First Book has distributed more than 125 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children throughout the United States and Canada. First Book is transforming the lives of children from low-income families and elevating the quality of education by making new, high-quality books available on an ongoing basis.
