Mathical Books are making their way into Nebraska math teachers’ classrooms this fall thanks to a sponsorship of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics’ (NATM) annual conference in Kearney, NE on Friday, October 18, 2024.
The conference theme is productive struggle in the math classroom. Twenty-three math educators from across the state are enrolled in a Fall 2024 online book club on the same theme. Educators who attend two or more sessions receive a $50 stipend for the purchase of Mathical Books in their classrooms.
Keynote speakers for the fall conference are John J. SanGiovanni, Susie Katt, and Kevin J. Dykema, whose co-authored book, Productive Math Struggle: A 6-Point Action Plan for Fostering Perseverance, provides the centerpiece for book club discussions, along with tie-ins to the Mathical Book List.
SLMath’s Outreach Coordinator Kirsten Bohl will attend the fall math educators conference and make a presentation titled “Down the Rabbit-Hole with Students’ Sense-Making and Playful Imagination: Teaching Mathematics Through Children’s Literature in the Classroom.”
